Verona's Custom Builds

We know that there are lots of old computers; laptops and desktops that by today's standards are old and useless. Well this may not be true and that old machine might have years of useful life left in it. Have you got an old desktop PC or laptop running any windows system before XP® just sitting in there doing nothing? You know the sort of thing the top of the range desktop 10 years ago with the operating system that went out with the romans.

It's not always possible to just upgrade to the latest operating system or hardware. When you get to this stage the system may well seem dead and can often be seen in bins or just dumped on waste land.

Well we might be able to bring it back in to use with a more modern operating system with some of the applications they need. So instead of doing nothing it might once again be helping your children do their home work.

We do this by installing a linux operating system some especially small and light to work on the older laptop. We may not be able to bring all old desktops back to life but there is no harm in trying. If it is just sitting there doing nothing what is there to lose.

The versions of Liux we use are listed below to find out more about them of to download them yourself just click on each link.
  • Puppy Linux : Very slim (97 MB) distribution, but retains a basically smooth and polished interface, with apps to cover common computer uses.
  • Damn Small Linux : For really, really fast and light performance with a straight-up interface. A system smaller than 50 MB that can run on a machine with a minimum of 16 MB memory (assuming you can boot/load it on there).
  • Xubuntu: Puts the Ubuntu methodology and software support into a lighter, XFCE-based desktop (check out its look and newest features here ). For an even lighter kind of "Damn Small Ubuntu," try Fluxbuntu .
  • gOS : For those who live inside their browser, gOS is a webapp-focused version of Ubuntu, with a lightweight window manager (Enlightenment) and an OS X-like bottom dock containing most of what you need.

Now we have said what we might be able to bring that old machine back to a useful life we need to tell you how much we charge. We also need to say that we might have to replace the hard drive but we will not do any work if we think the cost of bring back the machine will be more than £85 .

Now what we charge.Well to install the linux system we charge just £20--If we need to install a new hard drive we charge £80*.
*This is dependant on us being able to source an hard drive that is compatible with the mainboard.

WHAT's NEW?

Old Laptops, We could be able to bring back that old laptop. By installing a modern light weight Linux operating system That old laptop could be working again for just £20 Find Out More .
